Teena McCarthy is an Italian/Barkindji woman, a descendant of The Stolen Generations on her father's side. "This place called Australia apparently isn’t racist, but now I cop it, now there is an assumption, a snappiness, weird behaviour I’d never noticed before," she told the South Sydney Herald. "I’ve had lots of questions about which part of me is Aboriginal, or do I dot paint now? I’m also proud of my Italian heritage – maybe I’ll do a dot painting on a pizza...”

Teena McCarthy is represented in Sydney by Art Atrium

LOCATION - World Square, Corner of George and Liverpool Streets

I'm a contemporary artist with proud Dhungatti Aboriginal origins. My works are culturally & politically charged with a sense of irony & hint of sarcasm. Born Adam Douglas Hill Blacktown (1970) Western Sydney to a Dhungatti Aboriginal Father / Caucasian Mother.

Trained in illustration & photography, became self – practiced in painting. A classically trained Yidaki player performing nationally and internationally accompanying the likes of Christine Anu, Jessica Mauboy, and Peter Sculthorpe. Major events have included Australian Idol, The Deadly’s, The Rugby World Cup opening ceremony, and the welcome for Nelson Mandela.
